Garsovaizdžiai. Vakaras kompozitoriui, režisieriui Jóhannui Jóhannssonui atminti

Film “End of Summer” (29 min.) and an audiovisual performance of the music from a film “Apan” (directed by Jesper Ganslandt, Sweden, 2009) by film composer Erik Enocksson and visual
artist Martin Burström (40 min.)

Jóhann Jóhannsson (1969–2018) was an Icelandic composer and filmmaker – he passed away in February 2018. Jóhann’s background was in Iceland’s vibrant alternative music scene, but his best-known work was his unique blend of chamber music and electronics. Jóhann has composed music for several major films including original scores for Prisoners (2013), The Theory of Everything (2014) and Sicario (2015) and is a two-time Academy Award nominee and a Golden Globe Winner. End of Summer is his first film as a director.

Erik Enocksson is a Swedish film composer currently based in Stockholm. Known for his work with director Jesper Ganslandt and director cinematographer Fredrik Wenzel, Enockssons hauntingly beautiful film scores to movies such as “Farväl Falkenberg”, “Man tänker sitt” and “Apan” quickly gained him a cult following.

Originally released on the Gothenburg-based underground label Release The Bats, the soundtrack to the film “Apan” was recently reissued on Danish label Posh Isolation. Unusually
for a film score, Ganslandt and Enocksson chose to work with the theme separately – hence Apan was released as a stand-alone companion piece to the film. Where Enocksson’s previous
work used treated acoustic instruments and ghostly vocals, the heavily synth-based score to “Apan” broke new grounds. Unfolding its bleak beauty at a slow pace, the desolate harmonies of
“Apan” are like a lullaby for apocalyptic times.

During the closing evening of the 11 th Kaunas International Film Festival, Erik Enocksson’s music will sound to commemorate Jóhann Jóhannsson. They both first met in 2009, namely at
Kaunas IFF where they took place in the event for film music “Nordic Sounds in Film”. A beautiful personal and creative friendship started. The participants of the closing event
SOUNDSCAPES will have an extraordinary possibility to hear E. Enocksson playing live as he does it very rarely.
