Absent Wound

Absent Wound
Director: Maryam Tafakory

Iran, United Kingdom, 2017, experimental documentary, 10 mins., Persian, English with English and Lithuanian subtitles, N-7

Making a stage from two public spaces in Iran which women are prohibited from entering, Maryam Tafakory’s depiction of men and women coming of age draws parallels while commenting on this separation of the genders. Whilst seemingly in separate worlds, the film draws parallels and connections between these relative situations, in the process drawing documentary and fictional threads together, to reveal a shared sense of coming to terms with corporeality, its rituals and tribulations.
